FAQs

You can repair a range of TPO, TEO and PP plastic materials. Some examples include plastic car parts, kayaks, canoes, play sets, plastic furniture, plastic buckets, and more.

Not recommended for use on old Polyurethane or Polycarbonate

The included polyplaz plastic rods are formulated with carbon and glass fibers for extra strength and flexibilty. It bonds strongly to rigid thermoplastics, such as TPO, TEO and PP materials. Not recommended for use on old Polyurethane or Polycarbonate.

Do not unscrew the tip while hot. Metal becomes brittle in high heat. Wait for tip to cool down, unscrew the old tip by twisting counter clockwise and replace it with the new tip. Tighten until the new tip base is flush.

After each use, place the welder on the included stand and wait for it to cool. Once cool, clean off any excess plastic on welder and tip with included wire brush, then wipe down with a clean cloth.

Follow along with these easy 4 step process to make quick repairs:

(We recommend our customers to search other repair example videos on various Youtube channels and practice before repairing.)

1. Clean and sand the affected area

2. Cut the wire mesh to size and melt it into the back of the affected area using the welder

3. Melt the Black PolyPlaz rods and spread like peanut butter

4. Once dry, sand until smooth and paint (Paint, Spray tool not included)

It worked to repair a Kayak crack

I had about a 4" crack in the bottom of our Hobie Kayak that someone had done a previous inadequate repair. This kit allowed me to make the necessary permanent fix. The kit itself is fine for a one-off repair or light hobby work but is a little light for any body work or serious patchwork. The plastic material is not specified as to type which would be helpful. Matching type to item repaired ensures a good job. Let the tip do the work and don't press too hard. The Kayak is supposedly Type 2 HDPE. I used a matching color from a clean recycled bottle cut into strips. If your damage is somewhat large (actually long) as mine was be careful because as a larger area heats it may tend to sink if not supported from below. Slow and sure a bit at a time seemed to work. Given the cost of the tool this was a cheap adequate solution.

Makes what I thought was the end to my kayak, a very solid repair.

My kayak developed a crack in the hull. The crack developed were the mast support is attached to the bottom of the hull. The kayak is over 20 years old and I guess like us.......cracks develop over time. After researching different repair techniques, I chose this welder iron.
And , WOW... the repair was a success, using the metal screen supplied. The iron provided plenty of heat and working rigidity. This is not a one time throw away product. The repair was so easy, that Im considering repairing broken kayaks as a hobby. Great tool.

FIXED MY KAYAK AND MY NALGENE

I am SO GLAD I PURCHASED THIS!
I fixed a hole in an old cheap Kayak I had. The kayak had about a 3-4 inch crack in it. Just an old basic blue pelican sit-in kayak. Even tho it was a cheap kayak I thought it would be better to try and fix it rather than get rid of it and I am SO glad I did. Instructions were simple. Wand heated up fast. Plastic melted well and cooled quickly. Easy to add more layers. This kayak has been used 5-6 times since it was fixed and has held up fine. If it cracks or breaks again I will just fix it again with this product! I also fixed a busted Nalgene bottle with this! I froze my Nalgene bottle and the bottom popped out and got a crack. I used the heat tool and melted it back together! Definitely glad I found this product and I highly recommend it!
